What does “Conquest” mean?

“Conquest” is the term used to refer to the British capture of New France during the Seven Years' War. It included the famous Battle of the Plains of Abraham, which saw General James Wolfe face off against the Marquis de Montcalm. As the colony’s political and economic centre, Quebec City was of great strategic importance in this conflict. Much of the city, including Place-Royale, was hit hard by enemy fire, resulting in the destruction of numerous properties. In 1763, as a result of the Treaty of Paris, the French colony officially came under British rule. With the gradual settlement of an English population, multiple political, cultural and economic changes ensued, forever changing the course of the colony.
